A wonderfully atmospheric pair of landscape paintings depicting traditional rural scenes in India, presented in coordinating ornate gilt frames. Circa 1950s–1970s.
Each work captures a tranquil waterside landscape in a warm, earthy palette of ochre, rust, green and soft blue. One depicts figures and cattle gathered beside a meandering waterway, while the companion scene features a bullock cart and figures beneath the sweeping canopy of a magnificent old tree.
The paintings have a beautifully romantic quality, with softly rendered skies, reflective water and finely observed details creating a sense of depth and atmosphere. Their traditional subject matter and timeworn gilt frames give the pair a distinctive old-world character.
Designed as complementary works, they are particularly striking displayed together and would make a beautiful addition to a living room, study, hallway or layered gallery wall.
Measurements: 510 x 385 mm (Outer frame)
Please note that the date, origin and medium are attributed based on the subject matter, style and construction visible in the photographs and have not been independently verified. The paintings and frames display signs of age and wear, including areas of patina and loss to the gilt finish, which contribute to their individual vintage character.
